With regard to the implementation of the Human Rights Support Project in 2010 the Open Society Institute from Budapest became involved as a donor with a grant in the amount of EUR 12.000.
Within HRSP project activities on 5 and 6 June the second training session for police officers was held, where speeches were delivered by Mr Idzet Memeti on the topic of the Role of the National Preventive Mechanism in the Republic of Macedonia and Mrs Aneta Stanchevska, Assistant Minister and Head of the Sector for Internal Control and Professional Standards within MoI, together with her team, on the topic of Respect for the Rights of Persons Deprived of Their Liberty.

Two-day Workshop in MoI Training Centre

On 17 and 18 April within the Human Rights Support Project a two-day workshop was held in the MoI Training Centre in Idrizovo on the topic: “The National Preventive Mechanism in the Republic of Macedonia and the respect for the rights of persons deprived of their liberty”.
Mr Idzet Memeti, Ombudsman of the RM, made a presentation on the first topic, whereas the team of the Sector for Internal Control and Professional Standards within MoI was involved in the second topic. 25 police officers, shift managers of the police stations in Ohrid, Valandovo, Gevgelija, Kochani, Radovish, Shtip, Probishtip, Strumica, Resen, Prilep, Debar, Struga, Krushevo, Demir Hisar, Makedonski Brod, Bitola, Berovo, Kichevo, Delchevo, Vinica and Sveti Nikole, attended the training session. On the training Ms Aneta Stanchevska, Assistant Minister in MoI, Sector for Internal Control and Professional Standards, made a welcome speech.

Upon the invitation of the Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation the Project Coordinator of the Human Rights Support Project will pay a study visit to Northern Ireland together with representatives of the Police and Justice Sector in the period from 23 to 28 May 2010.
To promote the National Preventive Mechanism in the Republic of Macedonia, in cooperation with the Ombudsman, in the period 05-06 June 2010 a second training session will be held for police officers, whereas in the period September-November  2 two-day training sessions will be held for prison services of several penitentiary institutions.
With regard to the human rights protection of persons deprived of their liberty for the period May-June, two visits to prisons have been agreed as follows: PI Shtip and Skopje Prison, whereas in the period September-December visits to police stations will be organised in cooperation with the Sector for Internal Control and Professional Standards.
 In May the periodical report of the Human Rights Support Project will be published regarding the section on free legal assistance to possible victims of police abuse or torture.
